The Club

The Waimate Rugby Club, Manchester Park, Waimate, South Canterbury, New Zealand was established in 1876. WRC owns its own rugby grounds, including four rugby fields, a grandstand, changing rooms, and clubrooms that cater for many functions. The club fields a senior team, a development grade team (senior reserve grade), two IAB (Intermediate Advisary Board, U19,U17,U15) teams, a presidents grade team, and also has one of the strongest JAB programmes in the Hanan Shields District (North Otago, South Canterbury, Mid Canterbury, Ellesmere). Waimate Rugby Club can be contacted via post, phone, fax, email. All the relevant information can be found on the waimate rugby club contact page.

Players

The senior team, development team and IAB teams are always on the lookout for new overseas or local rugby players wishing to develop their skills as a rugby player and culturally by travelling to NZ from abroad or relocating from within NZ. We can help arrange accommodation, work in a variety of fields, and have contacts in a wide range of areas. These include forestry, agriculture, manufacturing, plumbing, painting, hospitality, retail and many other trades. The season extends from March through until August, with pre-season training starting in February.
Our senior team plays the first half of the season in a two part competition with North Otago (an NPC second division province) and South Canterbury (NPC third division) clubs combined. The second part of the rugby season is then played amongst the South Canterbury clubs solely.

Job Opportunities

If you are interested in travelling to NZ and working here as well as playing rugby, or perhaps fitting some rugby in as part of your OE down under then the Waimate Rugby Club is the place to contact. We can cater for your rugby needs at whatever level you play. A simple outline of requirements for visitors to NZ can be found here, or alternatively visit the travel links. Please use the contact forms or email the waimate rugby club to find out more.

Tourist Things

Waimate is very close to the Southern Alps and many of New Zealands tourist 'hotspots'. It is not far to travel if you like skiing, snowboarding, bungee jumping, kayaking, extreme sports, fishing, tramping, climbing, golfing or just the social activities that these all come with. Crusaders or Highlanders Super 12 rugby matches can be seen live within 2 hours travel of Waimate.
